and in getchu say "義母" this mean "mother in law" or "foster mother"

"義" is a kanji used to show a NON BLOOD relationship being members of a family. can be added in all family terms:

姉 elder sister
妹 young sister
父 father

Please, If you will use a software translator, use ATLAS.
